Student Housing Developer Scape Pushes Forward in Proposed 235,000 SF Mixed-Use on Boylston

BOSTON–Scape USA filed an Expanded Project Notification Form with the Boston Planning and Redevelopment Agency (BPDA) for the redevelopment of 1252-1268 Boylston St. and 1270 Boylston St. The UK founded student housing developer and landlord opened its first US office in Boston in June of 2018.

From the filing with the BPDA on April 11, 2019, Scape Boylston, LLC proposes to build a 235,095 square foot mixed-use building comprised of approximately 533 academic accommodations, ground floor retail, and an approximately 120-seat non-profit arts and cultural performance venue.

“As we work to bring an innovative approach to the private academic accommodation sector in Boston, we look forward to working with the neighborhood, community stakeholders and the BPDA as we continue the Article 80 process for our Boylston Street project,” said Scape North America CEO, Andrew Flynn in a prepared release.

Scape Student Housing Ltd was founded in London ten years ago, and later expanded to Australia - and now the student-housing operator has entered the US. Scape USA and has plans to open 20,000 beds throughout the country. Scape has invested more than $3 billion of capital and has more than 12,500 student housing beds in operation or in development in the U.K., Ireland and Australia.
