NORTH CONWAY, NH — The Mount Vernon Company has purchased the 200-room North Conway Grand Hotel from The Newport Hotel Group. The acquisition broadens Mount Vernon’s New Hampshire portfolio, which includes major multifamily and retail projects in the Portsmouth and Rochester markets.
Through a press release, the Mount Vernon Company announced it is continuing to expand its lifestyle and boutique hotel portfolio, which includes award-winning properties in Nantucket, Boston, Plymouth, and Falmouth, as well as its management partnership in Martha’s Vineyard. Hotels owned by Mount Vernon include The Revolution Hotel in Boston, 21 Broad and 76 Main in Nantucket, and the John Carver Inn in Plymouth, among others. Last month, the company added to its Cape and Island portfolio with the purchase of ‘Inn on the Square’ in Falmouth.
“We are extremely excited about our purchase of the North Conway Grand Hotel and plan to upgrade the property over the coming years. We look forward to not only further improving the guest experience but also becoming involved in this wonderful community,” said Bruce A. Percelay, Chairman of The Mount Vernon Company.
The North Conway Grand Hotel, in addition to its 200 rooms, features indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools, an on-site pickleball court, fitness and game rooms, a restaurant, a spa, and extensive meeting space.
The Mount Vernon Company has a history of deep involvement in the areas in which it owns real estate including Bruce Percelay’s role as chairman of Nantucket’s Cottage Hospital, publisher of N Magazine, his building of the Nantucket Whaling Museum, his role as chairman of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the US Senate in Boston, his most recent involvement in creating Nourish Nantucket, an island-wide hunger prevention nonprofit, and his former roles as chairman of Habitat for Humanity and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The North Conway Grand Hotel will be managed by Olympia Hospitality, which manages Mount Vernon’s entire boutique portfolio (as well as a collection of boutique properties on Martha’s Vineyard). The company, which is based in Portland, Maine, manages over 40 hotels across the United States and owns and operates the Hampton Inn in North Conway. According to John Schultzel, chief growth officer of Olympia Hospitality, “We have a deep understanding and appreciation of the North Conway market and want to establish the North Conway Grand as a premier full-service hotel in this area. By adding fresh amenities and making strategic upgrades, we look forward to enhancing the experience for everyone who walks through our doors.”
